Sonoma County is particularly suited for the growth of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. 2005 was a good year for full-bodied reds throughout California and especially Sonoma County. The long, warm, sunny days and cool nights allowed the fruit to develop to a full, unhurried maturity. The core fruit for this wine comes from mature vines in the heart of Alexander Valley.
The Sonoma County Cabernet is dark and rich, showing aromas and flavors of blackberry, currant, plum, vanilla and spice. The wine is well balanced, medium to full-bodied with a plush texture. Sonoma County is particularly suited for the growth of Zinfandel grapes. 2004 was a classic year for full-bodied reds throughout California and especially Sonoma County. The long, warm, sunny days and cool nights allowed the fruit to develop to a full, unhurried maturity. The core fruit for this wine comes from mature vines in the heart of Dry Creek Valley.
With a bright purple color. It shows enticing aromas of crushed berries, wild flowers spice, and white pepper. A juicy Zinfandel that is graceful and shows blueberry, boysenberry and apricot fruit. Touches of vanilla, cedar and sweet oak fold into the elegant finish.
The vineyard is located in Northern Santa Barbara in Santa Maria Valley. Known form a cool climate and long growing season. The Nielson Vineyard is planted in sandy loam soils, ideal for minimizing plant vigor, creating naturally low yields, small berries and intense flavors. The vineyard is cooled by ocean breezes and coastal fog, which promote slow ripening and extended hangtime for the grapes. A small block of the vineyard was originally planted Gamay around 1970, in 1991 it was grafted over to Grenache, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Mouverdre. It is from this tiny five acre block that we created the 2004 Thomas Halby Grenache.
Winemaking: The grapes were picked at perfect ripeness and gently destemmed. Keeping as many whole berries as possible, the grapes were transferred to small open top tanks for fermentation. Twice daily punch downs were preformed to maximize color and flavor extraction. After two weeks the wine was transferred to a mix of French oak barrels, 1/3 of which were new oak. The wines spent 16 months in barrels and racked and bottled unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: Deep purple in color. Aromas of ripe plum, blueberries and cream are complimented by floral notes with hints of sweet oak, white pepper and spice. Medium to full bodied in weight, rich fruit flavors of ripe plums, pomegranates, and wild berries fan out on the palate with touches of vanilla and spice. The wine shows complexity, supple fruit, with well integrated tannins and silky textured finish.

This 100 % Pinot Grigio comes from the Nahe region in Germany. Although of the smaller German wine regions, its extraordinary range of soil types is second to none. For this reason, the region is able to produce quite diverse wines from relatively few grape varieties. Pinot Grigio is planted at sites with loam, loess and sandy soils with the result of fuller bodied, still very elegant styles.
